Research Summary

What motivated me to join academia 20+ years ago was curiosity about the strategic aspect of opportunity and its relationship to sustainable new venture performance. I had spent most of 17 years in industry on the strategic development of new businesses. Since the majority of my industry work experience was within communities of new ventures and entrepreneurs, I have also been vitally interested in the relationship between successful entrepreneurship and economic development. These two motivations have led to my work on strategy in new ventures, and on the contributions that business can make to economic development.

In pursuing this direction, my research falls within the following categories:

Perception, networks and knowledge among top managers
Strategic consensus and change
Creating conditions for sustainable performance, especially among startup new ventures
Economic development through innovation and entrepreneurship
