Alaska Steppe Bison
The Alaska steppe bison is one of several extinct large mammals that roamed the Interior 100,000 to 10,000 years ago. This bison died about 36,000 years ago, and its frozen carcass was uncovered in 1979 by goldminers near Fairbanks. © 1992 University of Alaska Museum
