Date: Mon, 16 Jun 2008 10:22:11 -0400 From: GDAEannounce@tufts.edu Subject: GDAE Launches New Report on Foreign Investment in Latin America, June 19, Washington DC On Thursday, June 19, GDAE and its partners will release a new report titled "Foreign Investment and Sustainable Development: Lessons from the Americas," at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, DC. The report brings together analysis by Latin American economists of the economic and environmental impacts of foreign investment in Latin America during its period of economic reforms. The report finds that Latin America received unprecedented amounts of foreign investment during the reform period but such investment had a very limited impact on economic growth and often accentuated environmental degradation in the region. The report concludes with policy recommendations to increase investment in a manner more conducive to sustainable development.
