I didn't see [Andrew's] example because I don't have a copy of the Alan/Mino
ed. book since:
a) I haven't seen a review copy come on sale at any of the used bookstores
I frequent;
b) I haven't seen a new copy for sale at any of the retail bookstores I
went to; and,
c) no one has yet offered me a complimentary copy [hint, hint, wink, wink].
Alan now responds:
It's usually quite easy to get complimentary copies of books.
You offer to review them for some journal [hint, hint, wink, wink].
You might think that like, really obscure journals would have
trouble getting review copies but my experience is publishers
will send stuff to the Plockton Nutpushers Annual Digest if they
think they can get a review out of it.
We only get one comp copy per author for a multi-author book.
I'd be happy to E-Mail selected parts within the limitations
imposed on me by copyright law (copyright resides with the
publisher until 1998 and prevents us distributing 'competitively'.
A curious fact of a market economy). I hate copyright restriction
but I'd like to publish more stuff and we have to maintain
relations with publishers. So it goes. Maybe this will change.
Generally they don't get too pushy, so in essence if you want
a chapter let us know.
