National Professional Affiliations and Activities

I am now a reader in the area of women and music for the NWSA Journal and for the University of Illinois Press.

I am a life member of the College Music Society and a member of the International Alliance for Women in Music, the American Musicological Society, the National Women's Studies Association, the Southeastern Women's Studies Association, Pi Alpha Lambda, Mu Phi Epsilon, Omicron Delta Kappa, and the American Association of University Women.

I am secretary of the Board of IAWM and am rotating off the Board of Baptist Women in Ministry of North Carolina as its secretary, a post I've enjoyed since 1999, with the exception of one year.

Some past national activities:

two 2-year terms (2000-2004) on the Program Administration & Development Council of the National Women's Studies Association, where I chaired the Leadership & Mentoring Subcommittee.

A joint project of the PA&D Council's Leadership & Mentoring Subcommittee and the Women of Color Caucus is the Contemporary Curriculum Transformation Project: Multiplicities of Identities. I have worked with an energetic resource group of experts: Liza Fiol-Matta of New Jersey City University, NJ; Leslie Hill of Bates College, ME; Layli Phillips of George State University, GA; and Patti Duncan of Portland State University.

At the 2005 NWSA annual conference, the CCTP trained women's studies faculty members and program directors on the topic of:

"The Transforming Significance of Multiplicity of Identities to Women's Studies Curricula"

Orlando, June 9-12, 2005

Past affiliation: chair of the Committee on the Status of Women, American Musicological Society, 1986-1987.
