Valid reasons for missing lab:

A death in the immediate family.
A test in another class.
University sponsored athletic competition.
Preparing work for another class.
University sponsored musical event.

Being out of town.

NOTE: If you have a death in your immediate family, I urge you to have a family member contact the Dean's office. The Dean's office will then inform all of your professors of your situation. Confirmation from the Dean's office is all I need to allow you to make up labs or tests missed due to a death in the family. However, if you choose not to contact the Dean's office, I will require a copy of you relative's Obituary.

You may request prior permission to make up a lab in person, over the phone, or via e-mail; but, I will always want at least a short e-mail note containing the time and date of the lab you need to miss. If I grant you prior permission to miss a lab, this permission is conditional on receiving a signed note from your doctor, coach, or relevant academic sponsor explaining the need for your absence from lab. Anyone who will have multiple absences can bring me one note listing all of your scheduled absences.

When I receive written confirmation of your need for an excused absence, I will give the TAs a permission note to allow you to make up the missed lab. In most cases, this permission cannot be given until after the lab you are missing has met. If you have given me a signed note listing multiple absences, then you must send me an e-mail (containing the time and date of the missed lab) following each absence to remind me to write a permission note for you. After the TAs receive a permission note for you, you will need to follow the instructions for making up a missed lab.

NOTE: Your TA cannot grant you permission to miss a lab.
