The first addition to OPE-L in the 21st Century is:
===>>> Hugo Radice <<<===
a well-known Marxist economist from the late 20th Century.
Hugo offers a brief description of his interests, writings, etc. in the
following:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A founder-member and longtime activist in the Conference of
Socialist Economists, I have mainly worked in two areas, the
internationalization of capital (aka 'globalization') and the political
economy of Eastern Europe. Other continuing interests include
labour (labour process, industrial relations, labour politics), value
theory and finance. After many years teaching economics at
Leeds, I recently joined the Institute for Politics and International
Studies (still at the University of Leeds) as Senior Lecturer in
International Political Economy.
For nearly 30 years my main concern has been to develop an
internationalist critique of political economy. Recently I have
published a number of papers criticizing what I call the 'progressive
nationalist' response to globalization. Current work-in-progress
includes a critique of institutionalism in the comparative study of
capitalisms, and an essay on globalization and labour.
Selected publications:
Editor, "International Firms and Modern Imperialism", Penguin 1975.
"The national economy - a Keynesian myth?", Capital & Class 22,
1984.
"'Globalization' and national differences", Competition and Change
vol.3, 1998
"Taking globalization seriously", Socialist Register 1999
"Responses to globalization: a critique of progressive nationalism",
New Political Economy, vol.5 no.1, forthcoming March 2000.

Hugo
