Jerry, don't be aghast!

Summary of all three volumes of Capital.

"Capitalism is an irrational, alienating, exploitative, and oppressive
economic system."

More complex one sentence summary.

"Capitalism is an irrational, alienating, exploitative, and oppressive
economic system, but it is also a system that can produce tremendous
economic growth and technological change."

Marx's own one sentence summary.

"Accumulate, accumulate, that is the law of Moses and the prophets."

Marx was a great bible scholar. In both the new and the old testaments, the
summary statement of the law of Moses and the prophets is "Love God with
all your heart and soul, and love your neighbor as your self." So, Marx
summary statement is saying that capitalism is an immoral perversion of the
relationship that humans ought to have with each other and it is
inconsistent with the professed dominant religion of most capitalist
nations. Pretty powerful one sentence summary.

Brief summary are not a substitute for detailed study and analysis, but
they are useful for popularizing an important ideas. Most folks are not
going to read all three volumes of capital.
