I would make a stronger claim. It's not that  automation _may_ be misused
-- it  _is_ being misused and, for structural reasons, _must be_ misused so
long as capitalism remains the dominant mode of production.  Or,
expressing that in a different way,   automation is _not being misused_
when it meets the requirements of capital  since that (under capitalism)
is its designed use.  One could say the same thing about the scientists,
engineers, and designers working in this field --  their labour is utilized
by capital (or the state)  for capital (or the state).
