Call for Papers JSPE Annual Conference: Contemporary Market Economy and Political Economy, 23-24 October 2004 The 52nd annual conference of the JAPAN SOCIETY OF POLITICAL ECONOMY will be held on October 23-24, 2004 at Osaka University of Economics, Oosumi 2-2-8, Higashi-yodogawa-ku, Osaka 533-8533, Japan. The topic of the plenary session is Contemporary Market Economy and Political Economy. JSPE is an interdisciplinary association devoted to the study, development, and application of Marxian political economy to social problems. JSPE was founded in 1959 and since then has played a central role in the academic study of political economy in Japan. (The main language of the conference is Japanese. There will be several English sessions on 23.) English Sessions 1: Contemporary Market Economy and Political Economy All proposals will be given serious consideration, but preference will be given to proposals that: 1. focus on the theoretical analysis of globalization of market economy from the standpoint of political economy; 2. focus on the critique of market fundamentalism; 3. focus on the controllability of market economy; 4. focus on the significance and limit of market fundamentalism; 5. focus on the market, state, and community in contemporary capitalism; 6. focus on the contemporary market economy and national economy; 7. focus on the role, restriction, limitation, defect, and contradiction of contemporary market economy. English Sessions 2: All proposals reflecting the tradition and analytical perspective of JSPE are welcomed. Submission Procedures and the Deadline Proposals should be reached the JSPE International Communication and Exchange Committee (JSPE52@musashi.jp) by 31 May 2004 at the latest. Notification of acceptance will be sent by 15 June. When submitting your proposal, please include: 1. The title of proposed paper and the category of the session; 2. The name(s) of the author(s) and affiliation; 3. E-mail and mailing address; 4. An abstract (up to 200 words). Postal address is given below. Remember email submission is preferred. Cost: Attendants will pay their conference fee (5000 yen including the conference buffet), own transportation, accommodation and other personal expenses.
