The overriding concept in ALBA is one of solidarity among peoples and exchange not of commodities but activities. Claudio (Katz) spoke on the World Social Forum panel organised by the Centro Internacional Miranda on 'ALBA: an alternative to Neo-liberalism?' (along with Judith Valencia of Venezuela-- who he cites, Jose Luis Pacheco of Venezuela and Orlando Caputo of Chile). Claudio's focus was primarily exposing the nature of Mercosur (as in these articles). If I recall correctly, he agreed with my comment from the floor that revolutions were necessary before other countries now in mercosur would be members of ALBA and that in this respect ALBA basically functioned in those countries as a vision supporting revolutions. in solidarity, michael ps. the other CIM panel was 'The Marxism of Che Guevara and Socialism for the 21st Century' with Fernando Martinez (Cuba), Carlos Lanz (Venezuela), Peter McLaren (USA), Alexander Buzgalin (Russia) and me.
