'China Since Mao': First print-2000 copies; Second print: 1000 copies.
Cultural Revolution and Industrial Organization in China: First print: 1000 copies; Second print: 1000 copies. One may assume that at least 5 to 10 persons must have read each copy printed. More than that, the books generated lot of discussion among the Maoist groups in Andhra Pradesh. We have also collected data on China for the period subsequent to Bettelheim's book )that is between 1979-83 and 1983-2003 and these appeared in two journals: China Report published from Delhi and Frontier, published from Calcutta.

Among the many hings which readers told you they learnt from \
those books, does anything in particular stand out?

The concept of 'Socialism' [not simply change of juridical relations of property but fundamental transformation of actual production relations in terms of division of labour and workers' management]; relationship between the party and the mass organisations; and many issues which Bettleheim raised and discussed in the two books.
