In solidarity, Jerry ===================================================================== 10th Anniversary of <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/>Hegel- by-HyperText The 23rd October 2006 marks the 10th anniversary of the launching of Hegel-by-HyperText, the authoritative English-language archive of the works of Hegel, Marx's main inspiration and precursor in philosophy. Hegel-by-HyperText began as <http://home.mira.net/~andy/>Andy_Blunden's_home_page, and was moved to the Marxists Internet Archive on 11th January, 2000. It was one of the first attempts to archive an philosopher's entire body of work on the internet. The first work uploaded was <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/sl_index.htm>The_Shorter_Logi c, and included numerous hyperlinks to aid the novice user in understanding Hegel. Andy Blunden copy typed the entire book, but a scanner was then acquired and later works were trancribed using OCR. The entire text of Hegel's most famous work, the <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/phindex.htm>Phenomenology thanks to Jean McIntire of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Idaho. The entire text of <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/hl_index.htm>Science_of_Logic was scanned, including links to Lenin's annotations and underlining. Likewise the full text of Hegel's <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/prindex.htm>Philosophy_of_Right was added, these two being the most important works for most Marxists. Among Hegel's early works which are included in whole or in part are <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/gcindex.htm>The_German_Constitution, Hegel's introduction to the <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/cj/introduction.htm>The _Critical_Journal_of_Philosophy, <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/seindex.htm>The_System_of_Eth ical_Life, <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/fkindex.htm>Faith_and_Knowledge, <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/jlindex.htm>The_Realphilosoph ie, and the essay <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/se/abstract.htm>Who_Thinks_ _Abstractly?. There is also a small selection of http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/letters/index.htm>Hegel 's_letters. All sections of the Encyclopedia of the Philosophical Sciences are included: <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/natindex.htm>The_Philosophy_of_ _Nature, <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/ssindex.htm>The_Subjective_Spirit, <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/aeindex.htm>The_Lectures- on_Aesthetics, sections of <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/reindex.htm>The_Philosophy_of _Religion and <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/sp/abspirit.htm>Absolute_ Spirit. The full texts of <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/hisindex.htm>The_Philosophy_of_ _History (thanks for Carl Mickelsen) and <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/hpindex.htm>The_History_of_ Philosophy (part of which was transcribed by Carl Mickelsen of the University of Idaho)complete the collection. 315,000 visitors have used the site over the 10 year period, and the site has materially contributed to the promition of Hegel scholarship and a renewed interest in the Hegelian roots of Marxist thinking. The site also includes <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/li_other.htm>works_from_58_ writers - both Marxists and non-Marxists - criticising, explaining, interpreting and appropriating Hegel's works, over a period of 160 years, and <http://marx.org/reference/archive/hegel/li_help.htm>a_variety of glossaries, beginners' introductions and other resources for students of Hegelianism.
