Hi Dave: The important point here is that one can not separate in practice the international competition of capitalist firms from state policies. The rivalries and alliances of convenience for economic purpose by states is often an expression of the alliances between blocs of capital and nation states. The EU and the USA don't have to come into military conflict with each other for this to be true.
