[OPE] *ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE*

I am pleased to report that we have a new AC - Administrative Committee.

As has been reported previously, everyone who has posted on the list in the last year was put in a 'pool' which was randomized and then randomly ranked in a two-step double blind procedure. Then,individuals were asked to join the AC in the order of the random ranking. Three of the highest five ranked members agreed, but it tooksome time to work our way down the list until we filled out all five positions. This took longer than we anticipated, in part, because wehad to give individuals sufficient time to reply before we moved on to ask the next highest ranked individuals.
 This will be a very interesting and, in some ways, unique experiment in direct democracy and the "wisdom of crowds".
 I wish at this time to thank all of those who both agreed to serve on theAC and expressed their regrets.
I would be remiss at this time if I did not also thank an outgoing memberof the AC (formerly called the Advisory Committee) - Alejandro Valle Baeza.The list as a whole and I have benefited enormously by his participationand advice. He played a key role in shaping the proposal that led to the newAC and (on a personal note) I will miss his assistance with list administration.I also wish at this time to thank the others besides Alejandro VB who haveserved on the AC: Allin Cottrell, Fred Moseley, and Alfredo Saad-Filho.All of these comrades played vital, unsung, and difficult roles for the list in the past and we as a group are better off because of their participation.
With the formation of a new AC, I think it's fair to say that a new chapter in list history is about to be opened.
