Because a movie can be reproduced and viewed in multiple places. The
invention
of film and phonographs introduced a whole new mode of production here.
This early 20th century mode of production is now under attack by the new
productive forces of the internet and can only be sustained by oppressive
legislation on copyright, the pursuit of people who run file sharing sites
as 'pirates' etc.
