For introductory econ texts, here are some possibilities. Each has its strengths and weaknesses.

Bowles, Edwards, Roosevelt, _Understanding Capitalism_, 3rd edition

Ken Cole, _Understanding Economics_

Cohn, _Reintroducing Macroeconomics: A Critical Approach_

Himmelweit, Simonetti, Trigg, _Microeconomics_

Dollars and Sense, _Real World Microeconomics_

I leave out of the foregoing, introductory texts on Marxian political economy.
