The GOP state senators - acting on the initiative of the Governor - pushed through a bill
outlawing collective bargaining rights for public sector unions. They were able to proceed
with a vote despite the absence of the Democratic Party senators and a quorum through
a technicality, the legality of which has been sharply questioned. So begins a national
assault on collective bargaining rights and unions - a assault which could potentially
galvanize union members into action and resistance and/or be the death knell for trade
unionism in the US. I do not think this is an exaggeration.
