"Democracy" is just a general slogan. It doesn't necessarily mean anything substantive.
Marx at least drew a distinction between bourgeois-parliamentary democracy and workers' democracy, between political democracy and economic or social democracy.
Heaps of wurkers and Marxists just want to love the dictator. They're in love with "the strong man who tells them how the world should be", and who provides the exemplar to look up to.
