I think that does Kozo Uno an injustice. Uno's "ideal type" and his
categories are derived from a critical sifting and assimilation of
historical facts,trends and literature, in accordance with dialectical
principles, rather than simply being a formal typology superimposed on
reality for comparative purposes. The actual source of the so-called "ideal
type" matters here. Uno emphasised furthermore that the pure theory must be
systematically concretised at different levels of abstraction.
Maybe it is unfortunate for Westerners that Uno was called Uno and Weber
was called Weber but, leaving aside such nominal trivialities, in my
opinion Uno's intellectual achievement is vastly superior to Weber's. In my
opinion Weber was really only interesting and creative when he was doing
empirical historical research.
