> Maybe I am being terribly naive,. but can anybody explain to me > why Hugo Chavez is so strident in his public utterances? Hi Jurriaan: I think he wants to demonstrate to the Venezuelan people and the poor of the world *by both words and actions* his opposition to US imperialism and his refusal to be intimidated by multinational corporations (in this case, read Exxon) and Neo-liberal governments and institutions. Sub-Commandante Marcos, I suppose, could also be said to be "strident". The same was said about Guevara, Castro and many other revolutionaries and anti-imperialists.
