[OPE] FWD: Important review of Kautskyism Past and Present

The problem with the 'renegade' argument, which originates with Vladimir, is that it obscures weaknesses in the 'classical' Kautsky. If Vladimir Illich shared many of these positions he would tend to see it in terms of renegacy rather than aboriginal weakness.

Paul C,

You are just being provocative. Kautsky was a renegade and chauvinist and the consequences of his position were more than disastrous for millions of working class and oppressed peoples. The second volume of Alec Abbott's work will be on Kautsky and I will let you know when it is up.

I was wondering what Dave Y makes of the very explicit adoption of Kautsky as a model theorist by

I wrote a critical review of MacNairs book which rehabilitates Kautsky here http://londonbookclub.co.uk/?p=617

The latest edition of FRFI has a review of an important new online book by
Alec Abbott - Kautskyism past and present. The review is in FRFI 216 - The
limits to opportunism - and is by Peter Howell. It can be found at:
http://www.revolutionarycommunist.org/index.php/reviews/1873-the-limits-to-opportunism--frfi-216-augsep-2010.html

If you have difficulty opening this go to the FRFI website at
www.revolutionarycommunist.org <http://www.revolutionarycommunist.org%a0/> - FRFI latest edition on left-hand side.

The book is a rigorous critique of writers such as Panitch and Gindin,
Negri, Perry Anderson, Brenner, Callinicos and Harvey. It also shows the
significance of Kautsky's different theories of ultra-imperialism and
examines the views of the above writers in that context. The book is the
first volume available so far of a three volume work. It can be found at:
