In addition to the works cited by Chris, Raya Dunayevskaya's
_Marxism and Freedom_, contains an important interpretation of
Marx's concept of alienation. This book, originally published in
1958, seems to be the first to have drawn out the linkage between
his concepts of abstract and alienated labor.
Despite its importance, Dunayevskaya's work is little-cited and
little-discussed by Marxists, because she wasn't an academic,
because most of them don't like her philosophy and politics, and
because she was a woman. But in Norway, the situation is
starting to turn around somewhat.
