From 'working-class-studies' list. In solidarity, Jerry Rockland, ME ---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: [Working-Class] Marx: In Our Time's From: "Steven Ericsson-Zenith" <steven@semeiosis.com> -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just to bring to your attention Melvin Bragg's Radio 4 programme "In Our Time", which this month focuses on Karl Marx. The 45 minute audio programme can be downloaded from http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/inourtime.shtml I subscribe to "In Our Time" as a Podcast - so this was automatically on my system on it's release, this morning. Marx was voted overwhelmingly "the greatest philosopher" apparently by listeners to the programme - However, I rather suspect that this speaks more to the ability of some to mobilize tactical votes or simply that Marx is a name more recognized than Kierkegaard. http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/inourtime/greatest_philosopher_vote_result.shtml So, if you can listen to dry British academics being interviewed about Marx - none of whom are obviously working-class and one of whom dubiously asserts that Margret Thatcher advocated Marxist philosphy - then I do encourage you to listen to the show. On a personal note, I would not have voted for Marx. Indeed, I would not have voted at all for I find all such voting to be of dubious merit. With respect, Steven -- Dr. Steven Ericsson-Zenith http://www.semeiosis.com
